My daughter and I have been struggling with my grandson’s behaviors for a while now. We tried getting him assessed, doing time outs, and starting medication management. Nothing really seemed to work for us and we felt like we had nowhere to turn. We are fairly new to the county and didn’t know what resources were out there. I am so happy that my grandson was referred by his school counselor to the Children’s Health Home program. He has been working with her for about four months now and we already see a change. Since Care Management has started he is starting to do better in school because his worker was able to get my grandson set up with weekly appointments for behavior modification and family counseling. She also put in a referral so that he would be able to receive two additional services. I know that I have someone that will be in my grandson’s corner. My grandson knows that he has someone in his corner. He is not one for change, especially when it comes to new people. He took to her the second or third time that she came to visit. He plays with her and speaks to her comfortably. He seems to be a lot more open and honest with her as well. Sometimes we don’t always know how to advocate for my grandson, but the Care Manager has helped us advocate for him at CSE meetings, and counseling appointments. On top of that made sure we had transportation to these appointments. I don’t know what we would do without his Care Manager. She has helped the family tremendously and we are grateful for that. Having a consistent person here for not only our grandson but us is comforting.
