Adopt a Family

Overview

Starting in 2001, our Adopt a Family effort was created to help everyone have some extra holiday cheer. Every year since then we have expanded the program to include gifts for more children, individuals and families we support.

In 2023, we provided gifts to 340 families (over 808 individuals) in the Mohawk Valley.

In 2024, we provided gifts to 400 families (over 980 individuals) in the Mohawk Valley.

AND in 2025, we are ready to double our shoppers and have the biggest season yet!

Our ICAN families and individuals get to pick something from each of 4 categories to ensure they get what they want and need!

You can support our program in TWO ways:

Become a Shopper

We will get you a list for a family or individual early in the week of Thanksgiving so you can take advantage of Black Friday and holiday sales. You get to pick when you want to shop AND there is no wrapping needed. You drop off the unwrapped gifts and then we make sure they get where they need to go so everyone gets an extra bright holiday!

• You can shop by yourself or with a group of friends and family
• Each individual shopped for is estimated to cost $75 - $100 per person

Donate Online

If you aren't able to shop you can still support this effort with a monetary donation or you can donate gift wrapping “kits” and supplies for families to use once they receive their gifts.

We are thankful every year that so many people help make this program possible:

• Our community members, businesses and organizations who shop and donate
• Our Adopt a Family Committee coordinates huge undertaking, accepting and sorting the thousands of gifts
• Additional ICAN staff volunteer extra time to make drop-offs and pick-ups go smoothly
• Dozens of frontline staff deliver them right to our families!
