"Breaking the Iron Cage of Poverty" with Dr. Donna Beegle

All-staff trainings are a great way for our ICAN team to collectively learn about industry-specific topics, hear from experts in their field and put theory into practice as we work with clients and our coworkers each day.

Over 140 ICAN staff gathered on August 27, 2024 for a moving and impactful session with Dr. Donna Beegle titled “Breaking the Iron Cage of Poverty". The interactive nature of her presentation allowed staff members to have cross-departmental discussions, share personal insight and become more poverty-informed to aid in our every day work with children and families.


She emphasizes improving communication across poverty barriers, increasing identification, trust and follow through… and the importance of having context of poverty worked into all sectors and industries that we work in.

Dr. Beegle travels the nation sharing poverty impacts and solutions for assisting children and adults to move out and stay out of the crisis of poverty. She holds a Doctorate in educational leadership and is the author of multiple books. She draws on her life experience of generational poverty, 20+ years of homelessness and
