Justin
Justin's Story
Justin was first introduced into Kids Herkimer at the age of 16. At the time he was admitted into Elmcrest and was projected to be a resident until the age of 18. After a conversation with Steve Bulger, Justin expressed his goal of one day entering the military.
After working diligently with Kids Oneida’s Return Home Early and Kids Herkimer programs, Justin was discharged from Elmcrest and re-entered high school. Like any young man, Justin faced obstacles, but he persevered and graduated from high school. After graduation, he enrolled in Herkimer College.
Justin never lost sight of his goal to one day serve in the United States Military; his first choice being in the Marines. After being discouraged by some and told no by three different branches of the military, Justin was accepted into the National Guard. Today, Justin works at the Herkimer ARC and remains a dedicated member of the National Guard.
Justin’s story is one of resilience and perseverance. He was told by so many that his goal of being in the military was a little “too farfetched” because of his history and some mistakes he made as an adolescent. Justin, however, chose to utilize his supports and services to help him achieve his life-long goal. His focus and dedication to stay on task and reach his goals should be an inspiration to all!
