On the Path to Success

Mariah started her journey at Pathways Academy – one of our collaborative classrooms in Herkimer BOCES – right before physical distance and remote learning began across schools worldwide. Trust was an area that she struggled in, especially when it came to the ARCHES team that worked with her. The team stayed persistent with her, and eventually, a healthy rapport was built. There were setbacks and obstacles that she continued to face, but her greatest success was her ability to push through her distrust and allow help in. She also struggled with managing her medication, and the ARCHES team remained persistent in trying to help her see the benefits of medication for her mood disorder. The family ultimately made the decision to switch her medication management to ICAN, and she is slowly learning the benefits of it, how to use her own voice to empower herself, and how to take autonomy in her life.
